Signing a document

When a recipient cannot open the signing link

Almost every case is one of five things: the link expired, the code expired, the link was forwarded, the email never arrived, or the document was already completed or voided. Only the first two look like the same problem to the person stuck, which is why they are worth separating.

The link has expired

Signing links are deliberately short-lived, because they arrive by email and email gets forwarded and archived. On SignaCore a link lasts seven days by default.

An expired link cannot be extended from the signing page. The sender resends it, which issues a fresh one; nothing already entered is lost.

The code has expired, which is not the same thing

The one-time code is good for ten minutes on SignaCore, and a new one can be requested from the same screen after sixty seconds. The link can be perfectly valid while the code is dead.

If codes are not arriving at all, check spam, promotions and any quarantine the recipient's organisation runs before resending.

The link was forwarded

The code goes to the address the document was sent to. Forwarding the link does not move the code, which is the point - otherwise the link alone would be enough to sign as somebody else.

If the wrong person was invited, the sender adds the right address rather than passing the link along.

The document is finished or was withdrawn

A document that has been voided stops its outstanding links working immediately, and a request already submitted cannot be reopened from the signer's side.

Both of those are the sender's to resolve, and on SignaCore both are visible on the document's signing activity page.

Try it on a real document.

Five documents a month are free and it asks for no card. Whoever you send to signs without creating an account.
